subway, biro and pepper

Journal Entry: Tue Jan 29, 2008, 11:32 AM
awell, to all those of ye, who haven't notied yet, the pepperproject ([link]) really has some great stuff in it!

also, i'll try and make a habit out of fast-portraying people on the subway or transit.... cuz i gotta be a looot faster than i usually do ^^ i tend to scribble and erase and what not and not get anything done.
which (erasing) leads me to the newest addition in my repertoire of artsy equip: teh black biro of trve norwegian awesomeness. i might fall in love with it more than already has happened. did four fast sketches and scribblings with it on the subway yesterday. hoorray for me!

alright, till next time, when i even might have gotten my sorry butt up to get a scanner or a decent cam (i don't believe that meself ^^)

hahhah ohhh right... so you'd probably have to be super confident with your lines on the first try with charcoal and chalk...

A smudge stick is one of those little sticks made of cardboard or... i dont even know what they're made of lol, but you use them to blend... let me see if i can find a link

Ohhhhh they're officially called "Blending Stomps"
[link]
hahaha ^^;;

well, i don't know what a smudgestick is (looked it up in wiki... a bundle of herbs for ritual burning? xD i don't think so) but the trick about charcoal and chalks is that you almost can't erase them. you can brighten them up by titurating them on the paper, but you'll never really get it off the paper again. i always experienced that as a nice kick in the butt to just put lines where there have to be, not like my pencil work "aww, ten lines here, ten there... well... no, i can't do that!" *erases* "now why won't that just work?" *frustratedly does something else*
but yes, i use my eraser for that too. you just have to clean it in the end by rubbing the dirt off. works quite well with mine.

but actually... erasers don't "work" on charcoal and chalks ^^ so you don't really need one for that. (imho)

ahahaha its so true!!

I can only stay clean for so long, people just get used to the fact that I usually have an ink or pencil smudge on my face lmfao. Although I wonder what would happen if I whipped out chalk or charcoal in the middle of class.

I once did that with knitting. Confused the hell out of my teachers before one of the ballsier ones told me to gtfo of politics and join home ec ¬.¬

(bastard.)

I'd like to try those mediums but i'm afraid of using my smudge sticks on them. And my eraser... do you find you have to have a separate set of those things for those mediums?

well i think charcoal is great for those rough, edgy, pointed stuff ^^ i guess is could never ever get decent round shapes done with that...
and when i'm talking about chalks, i mean those small, little ones... i think you can actually work with those. the monster-charcoal pieces my arts-teacher always tries to get me into are a bit... well... scary to me oO

whereas i have to admit... i only use chalks and charcoal when i'm working on big formats and have an easel. A3 minimun. on A4 and smaller (margins of my folders and school booklets ^^) i use pencils. it's also easier to conceive from your teacher if its not arts ^^ those dirty fingers always give you away.

charcoallll challkkkk aaaaaaahhh!! NIGHTMARE!!

haha if you're like me, you want all the tools so you don't feel gypped out of something :3
oh me oh my
i should try my hand at charcoal again :X

hey, you're welcome ^^
that's just one really nice drawing ^^
although i really like the round, smooth and detailed art, i myself can only the rough, rugged, edgy style... must be because of the stuff i use... charcoal, pencils and dark chalks...

maybe the smooth style comes with mah tablet =D *hopes*
(yes, i know, gear is no substitute to skill ^^")
